Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 29 April 2026

These terms govern your use of the Parakiter mobile app and the website parakiter.com. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you don’t, don’t use the service.

Who you’re contracting with

Parakiter is operated by Wing Locker Ltd (referred to as “we”, “us” or “our” below), a business registered in the United Kingdom. Our address is 8 The Fairway, Newton Ferrers, Plymouth, Devon, PL8 1DP. Companies House registration number 16998651. VAT number 513 6499 80.

What Parakiter is

Parakiter is a mobile app for parakite pilots. It provides:

  • Wind and weather forecasts tailored to your wing
  • Site information for parakite-suitable locations across supported countries
  • Forecast alerts for sites you’re watching
  • Chat with other pilots at sites and in your region
  • Tide windows for coastal sites where supported

It is information for pilots’ use. It is not a flight clearance service, an air traffic control system, or a substitute for your own judgement. You are responsible for every flight decision you make. Forecasts and ratings are guidance based on third-party weather data; conditions on the day can differ from the forecast.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By signing up you confirm you are.

You must use the app for lawful purposes only and in accordance with airspace and aviation regulations applicable to where you fly.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your password safe. We use Firebase Authentication, so we never see your password — but if your account is compromised, contact us at info@winglocker.co.uk right away.

You are responsible for everything done under your account, including any chat messages, photos, or sites you submit.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms, post unlawful or harmful content, or attempt to abuse the service.

Subscription and free trial

Parakiter is free for the first 90 days. After that, continued access to forecasts, alerts, and chat features requires an active subscription.

Pricing: £2.49 per month (or local currency equivalent set by the app store).

Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is charged to the payment method on file with the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

How to cancel:

  • iOS: Settings app → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Parakiter → Cancel Subscription
  • Android: Play Store app → menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Parakiter → Cancel

You can cancel any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period — you keep access until then.

Free trial: New accounts get 90 days of full access. If you don’t subscribe before the trial ends, the app continues to work but forecast and chat features are locked until you subscribe. Your data is kept for 30 days in this “grace” state, after which the account becomes dormant. Dormant accounts can be re-activated any time by subscribing — your data is preserved until you actively delete the account.

Refunds: Refunds are handled by Apple and Google according to their respective policies. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund:

  • iOS: https://reportaproblem.apple.com
  • Android: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637

Pricing changes: We may change subscription prices in future. We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice via in-app notification and email (if opted in) before any change. You can cancel before the new price takes effect.

EU/UK consumer cancellation rights

If you’re a consumer in the UK or the EU, you normally have a 14-day cooling-off period to cancel a paid digital service. By starting your subscription you acknowledge and agree that the service is delivered immediately and that you waive your right to cancel under the consumer cooling-off period once you have started using paid features.

You can still cancel auto-renewal at any time as described above.

Your content

You retain ownership of everything you post (chat messages, photos, videos, site submissions, descriptions). By posting it through Parakiter you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, distribute, and process your content for the purpose of running the service — including showing your photos in the chat thread you posted them to and, if liked enough by other users, on a site’s public media gallery (subject to admin moderation).

You may delete your own content at any time inside the app. If you delete your account, we anonymise your account but keep messages and photos you posted (attributed to a “deleted account”) so other users’ conversations stay intact. To request full deletion of authored content, email info@winglocker.co.uk — we’ll honour reasonable requests as part of your GDPR erasure rights.

You must not post content that is unlawful, defamatory, abusive, harassing, sexually explicit, hateful, infringes someone else’s rights, or that promotes or facilitates dangerous flying practices. We may remove any content at our discretion.

Site submissions

When you submit a new flying site, you confirm that:

  • The site information is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • You have the right to share it (you’re not breaching landowner agreements or local pilot conventions)
  • You understand that submitted sites are reviewed by our moderators before going live and may be edited or rejected

We’re not liable for the accuracy of any site information, including yours. Pilots flying a site are responsible for their own due diligence — checking landowner permission, airspace, and conditions on the day.

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the app
  • Use the app to harvest data about other pilots
  • Use the app to send spam, scams, or unsolicited commercial messages
  • Use automated tools to interact with our API beyond normal app usage
  • Bypass or attempt to bypass the subscription system, content moderation, or rate limits
  • Use the app in any way that violates UK or applicable foreign law

Forecasts and weather data

Forecasts come from third-party weather providers (RASP, Open-Meteo, UKHO, WorldTides). They are best-effort predictions, not guarantees.

The forecasts and ratings shown in Parakiter are not flight clearances. Always cross-check with other sources, observe actual conditions on site, and never fly conditions outside your skill and equipment limits. We are not responsible for any incident, injury, or damage resulting from flight decisions you make based on the app.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We provide the service “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied
  • We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, special, or punitive damages
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to the service is limited to the amount you have paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose, or £100 if you have paid less than that

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Anything else that cannot be excluded under UK law

You acknowledge that aviation involves inherent risk and that the app is a planning aid, not a safety system.

Termination

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time (Profile → Delete Account inside the app, or by emailing info@winglocker.co.uk).

We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you breach these terms, post harmful content, or repeatedly fail payment. If we terminate without cause we’ll refund any pre-paid subscription period not yet used (via the App Store or Google Play).

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including the licence you grant in “Your content”, limitation of liability, and these governing-law provisions — survive termination.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice via in-app notification and email (if you’re opted in). Continued use of the app after the change date means you accept the new terms.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales — except that if you are a consumer resident in another EU country, you can also bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

If you have a complaint, please email info@winglocker.co.uk first — we’ll do our best to resolve it directly. If we can’t and you’re a consumer in the EU, you can use the European Online Dispute Resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
